About Us

Chimney Sweeping keeps your family safe.  That’s the reason Dr. Soot Chimney Sweep got started in the first place.

How Dr. Soot Got Started

Dr. Soot was started by Lou Neitz in 1989. He had been in technical fields in the corporate world when he decided he wanted to go out on his own.

Chimney sweep may not be the first profession the average person thinks of when wanting to start a business, but the Lou was attracted to the technical aspects, the physical nature of the work and, most of all, to the satisfaction of working for himself. Martha Neitz became involved early on to handle the logistics and customer service. They both were enamored of helping people with an often-neglected feature of their homes.

Expert Colorado Springs Chimney Sweep educating customers

Ask either one of them anything about fireplaces, chimneys or the latest in woodstoves and the Neitzes can tell you all about it. They don’t just sweep—they are experts in wood heating. They attend conferences, read trade publications and are active members of several professional organizations.

• The National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG)
• Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA)
• The National Association of Residential Property Managers (NARPM)

They are also members of the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado and have a current Contractors License from the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department.

We Know if We Worked on Your Home Before You Bought It

The Neitzes and their employees know their business and take very seriously their role in maintaining the safety of homes and families in Colorado Springs, Monument, Palmer Lake, Fountain, Peyton, Black Forest, and Manitou Springs. Martha carefully keeps records all the way back to 1989 and sends a reminder to homeowners that request reminders. If you just bought a home in our local area, you can call them to find out if/when Dr. SOOT serviced your system.

If you haven’t had your chimney swept in a while or if you’re thinking of adding a fireplace or woodstove, give Dr. SOOT a call.  In addition, if you have questions about the operation of your system, they will try to help right over the phone. They want to make sure your home is warm, cozy and safe.
